Program Eligibility

I do not have any previous experience with programming languages. How can I become eligible for the program?

You can take classes through your local community college or complete an online certificate program.

**Baylor offers excellent online programming classes through our continuing education program. These are very affordable, fast to complete and flexible.

Am I eligible for the program if I learned how to program on my own and did not take any formal classes?

To meet the programming requirement, you must have something to show your programming acumen like a certificate, work experience, bootcamp, classes taken, etc. Discuss your programming experience with an admissions advisor to determine if it would meet the requirement. 

What if I have experience with only one of the five programming languages required?

Experience and proficiency with any of the five programming languages would meet the programming requirement.

Is programming experience required?

Yes, you must be proficient or have knowledge and experience with any of the following programming languages: Java, Python, C, C++, or C#.

If I do NOT have a degree in Computer Science or something similar, which math classes must I have completed to be eligible for the program?

Calculus I, Calculus II AND Linear Algebra. 

Am I eligible for the program if my GPA is below 3.0?

It’s recommended you speak with an admissions advisor to gain more insight into your background as you might be eligible. Schedule an appointment with an advisor and have a copy of your resume and transcripts available.

I have not taken any quantitative courses as part of my previous degree. How can I become eligible for the program?

You must complete Calculus I, Calculus II AND Linear Algebra to meet the math requirement.

How many credit hours are required if I do NOT have a degree in Computer Science, but have something similar, such as a degree in Engineering, Mathematics, etc.?

Up to 42 credit hours.

How many credit hours are required if I have a Bachelor’s in Computer Science?

30 credit hours.

Should I anticipate an interruption in the availability of Enrollment Advisors, faculty, or in standard course delivery?

We are continuing to serve students without disruption during this time. Those who are inquiring about enrollment in the Baylor online Computer Science program are able to discuss options with an Enrollment Advisor who will work with them through the admissions process.

Does the current situation with COVID-19 impact when classes start?

No. All classes are still scheduled to begin on the planned start date and are not impacted by COVID-19.
